Lady Mavs whoop Whiting
EVERLY -- Clay Central-Everly's girls ran into the Whiting Warriors for the second time in seven days Friday night in Everly. Neither contest gave the Mavs much trouble as they followed up the previous 54-18 win with a 53-25 drubbing on their home floor.
CC-E grabbed the lead early and never looked back, taking a 14-4 advantage into the second quarter and a 27-14 lead into the locker room.
The Mavs, continuing a trend to their season, played very well defensively in the third quarter, allowing just two points while they grew their lead to 38-16. They continued to outplay their visitors in the fourth by a score of 15-9 for the 53-25 final score.
Josie McCarty put up a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Nehring and Mattie Larson each came close to double-doubles of their own with nine points and eight rebounds each. Katrina McCarty pulled down a team-high 12 boards, including seven on the offensive end which helped her score seven points.
The Mavericks finished with 53 team rebounds, 31 of which came on the offensive glass. Unsurprisingly, their shooting percentage came in a little low at 24 percent (21-88).
CC-E moves to 8-11 for the season with the victory. They play their final regular season game Tuesday night in Correctionville against River Valley. They'll begin postseason play Thursday night against Harris-Lake Park in Lake Park at 7 p.m.
