Fourth of July in Spencer
Food, fireworks and music to highlight celebration
An evening of food and fun, concluding with a fireworks spectacular in the grandstand at the Clay County Fairgrounds, will help area residents commemorate the nation's birthday Friday.
Fourth of July festivities will get underway with a grill-out featuring a burger and brat meal served by Hy-Vee. The meal will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed at 7 p.m. by a free watermelon feed courtesy of Fareway and served by members of the Fourth of July Committee.
At 8 p.m. the Spencer Municipal Band will perform several popular patriotic tunes, followed by the flag ceremony presented by the American Legion, Spencer VFW and Avenue of Flags, starting at 8:45 p.m.
Live entertainment will continue at 9 p.m. featuring Spencer High School musician Emma Wicks, duo Katyln Moore and Brian Neary, and Jill Barr.
The evening will wrap up with the annual fireworks display.
Each year, the special evening celebration is supported by Spencer area service clubs, American Legion, VFW, Fareway, Hy-Vee, the Clay County Fair and donations from can and bottle collections throughout the year.
