Jump Rope for Heart a success

Saturday, March 23, 2013

The 27th annual Jump Rope for Heart was held Tuesday, March 19, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Spencer High School Field House. Over 150 (4-6 grade) jumpers from Lincoln, Sacred Heart, and the Spencer Middle School participated in the event. $15,871.67 was raised through pledges collected from the community.

These three students brought in the most donations from their respective schools: MacKenzie Bruning, Sacred Heart, $319; Shyanne Heilstedt, Lincoln, $344.25; and Alexa Guerrero, Spencer Middle School, $1,173.

All proceeds from the Jump Rope For Heart Program go to the American Heart Association for the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

The Jump Rope for Heart Committee credits the success of the event to the jumpers, their parents, members of the community that donated for this year's JRFH drive, Jill Wooster, NW Iowa Youth Market Specialist for the American Heart Association, and JRFH committee helpers Laura Kelp, Suzie Fagen and Sandi Nielsen.

Special appreciation goes to Schmidt Pediatric Dentistry for the generous donation of $2,000 to cover the loss of donations that were taken from Lincoln School.

They also express their appreciation to the KICD stations, Y 100.1 RADIO, Mediacom, Spencer Muncipal Utilities, and The Spencer Daily Reporter for publicity, the Sports Page for donations, and Fridley Theaters for prizes drawn during the jump, and Tracy and Elizabeth Frink for being the DJs for the event.

Thank you so much for your time and publicity for this event.

Jennie Klatt, Pam Haak, Marcia Klett, Wilson Hookfin, Mryna Edmonds, Angie Huntoon, and Don Martindale,

American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart Committee
