Professional testing center adjacent to Sylvan

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Professionals needing to take a test for a certification in their field no longer need to drive several hours to the nearest testing location. A testing location has opened in Spencer, inside the Sylvan Center location.

"We're trying to serve the business community," Sylvan Director Brent Burns said. "We wanted to offer a closer option for companies to send employees for certification testing."

The decision to include a Kryterion testing center in the Sylvan location was inspired by a phone call Burns received from Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars.

"They needed to send several of their employees to take a certification test, and they called to see if we offered the testing."

Spencer is one of three locations in Iowa to offer testing through Kryterion. Previously, a business professional would have been required to drive to Cedar Falls or Urbandale for their test.

"I think it will be fantastic," Burns said. "The biggest thing is it's a money saver for businesses to have their employees taking tests at a closer location."

He continued. "All the businesses in northwest Iowa can benefit from this."

The Cedar Falls and Urbandale locations offer between 30 and 60 tests per month.

The tests are scheduled on an individual basis, and can be taken any time.

Most of the certifications cross state lines. The next closest locations are in Sioux Falls and Mankato.

He continued. "For us, it's perfect because the students we work with are in school all day. It gives us the time to offer the test and it gives a quiet environment to take the test."
