CC-E FFA earns $1,500'Planting a Seed' grant

Saturday, January 26, 2013

As one of 56 applicants, the Clay Central-Everly Future Farmers of America became one of eight FFA chapters in the state to earn the "Planting a Seed" grant. Chuck White, of the Iowa Soybean Association, along with Aaron Jalas and Steve Dorn of DuPont Pioneer presented a $1,500 check to FFA Advisor Betsy Schoelerman. The FFA will use the money to begin a backpack program for the district, packing food for elementary students from food-insecure families to eat over the weekend. In addition, the FFA hopes to begin a district-wide garden in the spring, ideally raising food that could be distributed back to the community through the backpack program.
