The Spencer girls struggled Thursday night on the road facing No. 2-ranked Newell-Fonda, shooting just 8-for-49 (16 percent) in a 53-25 loss in Newell. The 25 points is the fewest scored in a game this season by the Lady Tigers, and it's the second time they've been held under 30 points (29 vs. ELC last Friday).

"Newell-Fonda made us play fast and got us out of our rhythm and were very physical," head coach Don Martindale said. "When you shoot that type of percentage against a team like that, you're not going to have a very good chance. We just missed a ton of shots."
Newell-Fonda (16-1) forced 18 Spencer turnovers and was led in scoring by All-State point guard Renee Maneman with 14 points. Andrea Christensen added 11 in the win. Newell-Fonda beat Spencer 48-35 in the first game of the season as well.
Heather Williamson led Spencer with eight points and Kirstin Martindale added five. The Lady Tigers will be back in action tonight (Friday) when they host Le Mars in a Lakes Conference tilt. Spencer (10-7 overall) lost in the first game versus Le Mars on Dec. 14, 39-35, as its fourth-quarter rally fell short.
SPENCER: Heather Williamson 8, Kirstin Martindale 5, Kari Kramer 3, Taylor Anderson 3, Emily Burns 2, Taylor Glover 2, Alexa Allen 2.
