Funeral Mass for Eleanor Marian Schooley was conducted Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Gretna, Neb. Rev. Michael Grewe officiated the service.

A private family interment followed.

Eleanor passed away peacefully at Gretna Community Center with family members present on Jan. 17, 2013.

Eleanor was born Aug. 5, 1929 in Beresford, S.D. She and Dale Schooley were married 61 years ago and moved to Sioux City from South Dakota, then to Spencer. During her years in Spencer, Eleanor began the popular Tom Thumb Daycare, which she operated for 32 years with more than 6,000 children attending. Later, she and Dale opened the summer version, Grandpa's Barn. She was active at Sacred Heart Church as a vocalist and had been a house-keeper for Fr. McCoy. Later, she and Dale farmed in the Gillett Grove area. They moved to Royal and began spending their winters in Quartzite, Ariz.

Her loves in life were children, flowers, gardening and music. Among her many talents were cooking, specifically cakes and superb pies.

Survived by devoted family, husband of 66 years, Dale; children: Marilyn (Rob) Hanson; Jo DeMars (Richard Schumann), Pat (Lynn) Schooley, James Schooley, Connie (Mark) Dunwoody, and Mike (Colleen) Schooley; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
