The Clay Central-Everly girls team keeps finding ways to win games.
Thursday night, the Lady Mavericks found a way to win in double overtime at Laurens-Marathon, 58-49, to extend their winning streak to six games and improved their overall record to 12-2 on the season.
CC-E needed a last-second jumper by Heather Busch to beat Laurens-Marathon last week, 44-43. In the rematch Thursday, the Chargers came from nine down at the end of the third quarter to tie the game at 40-40 at the end of regulation.
After the first overtime couldn't determine a winner and the game was knotted at 46, CC-E hit two 3-pointers and went 6-of-8 in the second overtime period to extend the lead and win by nine.
"The girls never quit," CC-E girls coach Lester Tessum said. "They just play and keep fighting. This group just has the will to win."
Emily Jobst led CC-E in scoring with 18 points, while Blair Montgomery had 16 points and 17 rebounds. Caitlin Khenkitisak added nine and Mattie Larson scored seven in the win.
