Big 4th sparks Lady Mavs

The Clay Central-Everly girls kept its winning streak alive with a 19-point fourth quarter as they came back to beat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 42-36, Saturday, Jan. 12 in Hartley. CC-E allowed just five points to the Hawks in the fourth quarter as the Mavericks battled to overcome a 10-1 deficit after the first quarter.

Emily Jobst led with 14 points and Mattie Larson hit two 3-pointers and finished with 13 points as CC-E improved to 10-2 on the season and is currently on its second four-game winning streak of the season. The Lady Mavs have won eight of their last nine, including the last two without senior Stevie Scott, who has been out of the lineup.

Blair Montgomery scored four points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. CC-E trailed 31-23 after the third quarter before mounting its comeback. HMS was led in scoring by Katie Mills and Taylor Sweeney, who each had nine. The Hawks fall to 3-8 on the season. The Mavericks will face C-W-L in Corwith tonight (Tuesday). C-W-L is 1-10 and has lost 10 straight.


The CC-E boys fell to HMS Saturday night in the second game of the doubleheader, 59-21. It's CC-E's 11th-straight loss and ninth game scoring under 25 points. Freshman Jordan Japenga led the Hawks with 15 points, while Blake Simons scored 13 with nine boards to help HMS improve to 5-6 on the year.
