Robert Leroy Stanton, 86, of Morning Sun, died Saturday evening Jan. 12, 2013, at the Morning Sun Care Center.
The son of William and Ilena (Pierce) Stanton, he was born Dec. 5, 1926, at Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was married to Gloria "Peggy" Dorr, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of the Spirit Lake High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the railroad for many years as a telegrapher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He attended the Morning Sun United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sherry Stewart of Morning Sun; three sons: Robert Stanton of Joplin, Mo., Steve Stanton of Washington, Iowa, and Glen Stanton of Muscatine, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Jeanie Culver of Spencer; one stepson, Roger Small of Kellogg, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Elaine Dalton and Ruth Stanton - both of Rogersville, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and nine brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday Jan. 17, 2013, at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Spencer at 1 p.m. Friday.
A memorial has been established for the Disabled Veterans Fund.
