The Spencer Ambassadors welcomed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Carol Lewallen, MSN, FNP-BC and the staff at Spencer Convenient Healthcare to the community. Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 116 E. Seventh St. Suite 2. The center can be reached at 712-580-6592. Services offered include wellness and DOT physicals, along with general medical care and various health testing in its own labs. In Iowa, an ARNP may practice independently, prescribe medication, diagnose, order lab and radiology tests and perform other medical functions as required. Spencer Convenient Healthcare offers extended hours for those with minor illness, injury and those in need of chronic disease management. Lewallen, a Cherokee native, has been a nurse for 25 years, the last 12 of which have been in Spencer. She saw a need for this particular type of medical service and developed a business plan with the assistance of Kelly McCarty.
