After a 5-0 start, scoring became difficult for the Lady Tigers Monday night as they fell to visiting Algona, 38-32, in a non-conference at the Spencer Field House. The Tigers managed just 12 points in the first half and their fourth-quarter rally fell short.

"We didn't move the ball well, and when we got open looks, we missed the open shots," Spencer coach Don Martindale said. "Defensively, it's great to hold a team to 38 points on our home floor, but we've got to score."

Algona extended its lead to 31-22 early in the fourth quarter but Spencer would go on a 10-2 run to bring the game to 33-32 with 1:32 left. Algona would hit their free throws and hold on to the victory. The Bulldogs improve to 8-4 on the season, while Spencer falls to 6-5.

Kirstin Martindale led the Lady Tigers in scoring with eight points, followed by Heather Williamson's seven.

Algona's Tangy Wiseman led all scorers with 11.

Spencer will host Sheldon tonight (Tuesday) for another non-conference game and host Spirit Lake on Friday in a Lakes showdown.

SPENCER: Kirstin Martindale 8, Heather Williamson 7, Kari Kramer 5, Alexa Allen 3, Taylor Glover 3, Taylor Anderson 2, Emily Burns 2, Kelli Kramer 2.
