Snowmobile accident injures Phoenix man

A 37-year-old Phoenix, Ariz. man sustained injuries to his lower back after being thrown from a snowmobile Sunday.

A Phoenix, Ariz. resident was taken to Spencer Hospital following a snowmobiling accident Dec. 23, and treated for lower back injuries after being thrown from the vehicle.

Clay County deputies were dispatched to a personal injury accident in the 1400 mile of Clay County Road B-40 Sunday.

Paul Matthews, 37, of Phoenix, was westbound in the north ditch of B-40, traveling over a driveway and re-entering the ditch when the 2013 Arctic Cat he was operating went off a culvert. Matthews pinned the throttle, the snowmobile scraped a tree, and he was thrown from the machine, sustaining injury.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by Spencer Municipal Hospital, Everly Fire and Rescue and Royal Fire and Rescue.

Damage to the Arctic Cat was estimated at $100.
