Funeral Mass for Kathleen Detrick will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Rev. Edward Girres officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Kathleen Louise Detrick was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Helen (Froehlich) Huber. She grew up in Algona, where she attended school and in 1947 graduated from St. Cecelia's Academy. After her schooling she worked at Northwestern Bell.
On Feb. 5, 1948, Kathleen was united in marriage to Robert Detrick in Algona. After their marriage they lived and farmed north of Algona while raising their family. She later worked as a waitress at Van's Cafe, at the Algona Newspaper and at the Algona Livestock Auction until 1999.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, playing the piano, fishing and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Cecelia No. 283 and a past member of the Union Mothers and Daughters Club and Bishop Garrigan High School board member.
Kathleen died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the Algona Manor Care Center. She was 82.
She is survived by her 17 children: Stephen (Debbie) Detrick of Brooksville, Fla., Jacqueline (John) Pedersen of West Branch, Joseph Detrick of Radcliff, Dale (Gilberta) Detrick of Arkansas, Beverly (Wayne) Kaiser of Algona, Mary (Steve) Anliker of Cedar Rapids, Linda Detrick of Emmetsburg, James (Lori) Detrick of Ankeny, Jean Detrick of Algona, Jon (Lori) Detrick of Lone Rock, Charles Detrick of Kansas City, Mo., Jeffry (Jamie) Detrick of Paulina, Nicholas (Barb) Detrick of Algona, Richard Detrick of Spencer, Virginia Bubke of Spencer, Timothy (Michelle) Detrick of Mason City, and R. Chris Detrick of Casper, Wyo.; 29 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Huber of New Mexico; brother-in-law, William and Barb Detrick of Dakota City; sister-in-law, Bette Kern of Algona and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on May 14, 1994; granddaughter, Melissa; and grandson, Jackson.
