The Emmetsburg E-Hawks outscored Sioux Central 23-13 in the fourth quarter and won by seven, 48-41, in a non-conference boys basketball game in Sioux Rapids Tuesday night. Michael Pugh hit five 3-pointers for the E-Hawks as they were able to pull away late in a close-contested game.
"This game was a battle from start to finish," Sioux Central coach Stephen Tjaden said. "I give a lot of credit to Emmetsburg for hitting some big shots in the fourth quarter when they needed to. Our guys gave great effort tonight. We struggled at times with their zone and need to do a better job of valuing every possession."
Austin Glawe led the Rebels with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Christian Sylvester added eight points and four assists. The game was tied at 13 after one period and Sioux Central led 21-19 at half. The Rebels maintained a 28-25 lead after three but the big fourth from Emmetsburg was the difference.
Sioux Central falls to 1-6 on the year while Emmetsburg improves to 2-6.
Sioux Central is scheduled to host Clay Central-Everly in a girls-boys double header at 6 p.m. in Sioux Rapids.
