Marjorie Florence Fairchild, daughter of Barnabas C. and Bertha F. (Grace) Stanzel, was born April 7, 1921, on the farm in Clinton Township, Sac County, Iowa. In 1925, the family moved to a farm southeast of Sioux Rapids. She received her education at Sioux Rapids Consolidated School, graduating in 1939. In February 1940, Marjorie began Nurses' Training in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from St. John's School of Nursing in June of 1943.
On June 27, 1943, Marjorie was united in marriage to Francis Jared Fairchild at the First Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids. She and Jared moved to a farm north of Sioux Rapids, where they began farming. In January 1959, they moved to a farm southwest of Sioux Rapids where they farmed until 1974, when they moved into Sioux Rapids.
Marjorie was employed as a registered nurse at the Sioux Rapids Hospital, the Spencer Municipal Hospital, Buena Vista County Hospital and the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids. She enjoyed being a caregiver and also did some private duty in homes.
Marjorie was an active member at First Methodist Church, Women's Society of Christian Service and Afternoon Circle. She was also active in Ladies League at Little Sioux Golf and Country Club. Marjorie enjoyed playing cards and was a member of Club 16 and ABC Bridge Club. She was Past Matron of Buena Vista Chapter No. 309, Order of the Easter Star and was a member for 66 years.
Marjorie and Jared wintered in Green Valley, Ariz., for 39 years. In April 2009 they moved to Riverview Assisted Living Facility in Spencer.
Marjorie passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 91.
She was blessed to have loving care-givers at St. Luke and Riverview. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Patsy Ann Fairchild; brothers: Gerald, Kenneth and Robert Stanzel; and sisters: Mildred Filloon and Alice Hill.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jared Fairchild of Spencer; daughters: Judith (Loren) Jepsen Plymouth, Minn. and Green Valley, Ariz., and Gale (Larry) Rittscher of Sioux Rapids and Mission, Texas; grandchildren: Cynthia (Roland) Gerodias of Storm Lake, and Angela (Brian) Fay of Spencer; great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Fay; her brother, Don Stanzel of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
