A Spencer man was charged with operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control, and processed into Clay County Jail Wednesday after colliding with a home on 17th Avenue West.

Spencer Police responded to 1521 17th Ave. W. shortly after 5 p.m. when a caller said a truck struck the home located on the property. Upon arrival, police assisted Spencer Ambulance personnel in retrieving Brent Kingery, 53, from the truck. He was transported to the hospital as part of a suspected OWI investigation.

Eyewitnesses alleged Kingery was traveling west on West 16th Street, pulled into the driveway at 1521 17th Ave. W., backed up, and then pulled forward again, this time hitting the home.

Officers reported damage to the brick face on the house, and possible damage to the brick work on the side of the garage. A lawn ornament was also believed to have been struck.

The 1970 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Kingery, sustained heavy front end damage and both doors did not open and shut properly. Repair estimates were listed as $2,000.

The home, owned by Alan Peck, received $5,000 in damages, based on the property damage report.

Kingery was released from Spencer Hospital with minor injuries. The OWI charge was Kingery's first.
