The Sioux Central girls team had three in double figures as they rolled to a lopsided win over St. Mary's, Storm Lake Tuesday night, 60-32. Hallie Ehlers led with 14 points as Erin Rachuy added 12 and Taylor Fahnlander scored 11.
The Lady Rebels led 35-12 at halftime and totaled 17 steals in the game, including six by Rachuy and five by Fahnlander.
St. Mary's got nearly all of its scoring from junior Jasmine Demers, who scored a game-high 20 points. Sioux Central hit 27-of-54 shots, but connected on just 2-of-12 3-point attempts.
The Lady Rebels are 5-4 on the season and host Pocahontas Area Friday night.
Sioux Central's boys team faced a daunting task Tuesday night when they visited last year's runners-up, St. Mary's. The undefeated Panthers (5-0) jumped all over the Rebels with a full-court press and led 24-3 after the first quarter. St. Mary's would coast to a 60-20 victory.
"We were unable to keep up with their early full-court pressure and that led to easy transition buckets," Sioux Central coach Stephen Tjaden said.
The Rebels produced 15 of their 20 points in the second quarter, while they were shut out in the third and scored two in the fourth. Austin Glawe led Sioux Central with eight points and eight rebounds. St. Mary's, Storm Lake's Luke Lenhart scored 21 points with seven steals.
Kennedy Drey added 14 points, seven boards, seven steals and sent back nine shots. St. Mary's stole the ball 34 times, including 10 by Joe Sandhoff.
