The third-ranked Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets got 27 points from Allie Sievert as they dominated play at home versus Spencer Friday night in a 71-37 win. ELC (5-1, 2-0 Lakes) scored over 20 points in three of the four quarters and shot 58 percent from the floor (28-of-48) as they outscored Spencer 47-18 in the second half.
Spencer falls to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Lakes Conference. Heather Williamson led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 10 points.
"I thought we hung with them in the first half," head coach Don Martindale said. "The third quarter did us in. The game got going way too fast for us. We had nine turnovers in the third quarter and you just can't do that against a team of this caliber."
Spencer trailed 34-19 at halftime and fell back 57-29 after three quarters. Sievert was 11-for-15 from the field and led the Midgets with five rebounds.
"We gave her way too many easy looks, and that's not typical for our team," Martindale added.
"I thought we competed for four quarters, but we've got to execute for four quarters with that. ELC is an outstanding team. If they stay healthy, they'll have their sights set on a big finish at the end of the year."
Freshman Emily Burns scored six points, while Taylor Anderson, Alexa Allen and Kari Kramer each added five points against an ELC defense that averages 30.6 points given up per game.
Spencer is back in action tonight (Saturday) hosting Sioux City North at 6:30 p.m. at the Spencer Field House.
