The Sioux Central Rebels hosted a doubleheader with Alta-Aurelia Tuesday night in Sioux Rapids, with the girls winning, 38-34. On the boys side, Austin Glawe had another huge game but it wasn't enough as the Rebels fell, 59-46.
The girls got 13 points from Hallie Ehlers, and eight points, seven rebounds and seven steals from Taylor Fahnlander as the Lady Rebels improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Rebels led 24-19 at halftime and held on in a low-scoring second half. Sioux Central shot 33 free throws in the game, hitting 15 of them. Bailey McGuire added six points and four steals.
Austin Glawe continued his high level of play this season with 27 points and 16 rebounds in a 59-46 loss to Alta-Aurelia. The senior also blocked four shots, had three steals and three assists. He was 11-of-15 from the line and 2-of-5 from three but it wasn't enough as the rest of the Rebels combined for just 21 points and 10 rebounds.
"Alta did a nice job of controlling the tempo and making it a fast-paced game," Sioux Central coach Stephen Tjaden said. "We did a better job of adjusting in the second half. We need to take this improvement and build our weaknesses for future games against fast-paced teams."
The turning point in the game was the second quarter when Alta-Aurelia out-scored Sioux Central 23-11 to open a 38-23 lead at halftime. The Rebels drop to 1-2 on the season and play at Manson-NW Webster Friday night in a girls/boys doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
