Funeral services for Mrs. Irma Runkle, 103, of Spencer, were conducted Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Dale Hodges officiated the service.
Burial was conducted at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
Mrs. Runkle passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.
Irma Adeline Runkle, the daughter of Edward and Oma (Street) Rorah, was born Dec. 23, 1908, in Menlo, Iowa, on a farm, where she loved horses. Her childhood years were spent in Gillett Grove, where she received her education. In 1916, the family moved to Spencer. Irma was the second of four children. As a teenager, she worked at Carroll's Bakery and Medlers. At 18 years old, Irma's dad passed away.
Irma married George "Judd" Bruce Runkle on Jan. 16, 1927, in Estherville. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Lake Park for 18 years. In 1985, they moved to Spencer, and Everly, where they lived on different farms and she continued her work as an Avon representative until her retirement after 40 years. She enjoyed gardening in her spare time as well as raising her favorite flowers, carnations and geraniums.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George "Judd" on Nov. 15, 1990; an infant son, Gordon Bruce; two brothers: Elmer and Jack Rorah; one sister, Lou Englehardt; and a son, Charles and a daughter-in-law, Karen Runkle.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ronald Runkle of Spencer; three daughter-in-law's: JoAlyce, Joleen and Vonnie Runkle; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandkids; 17 great-great-grandkids; other relatives and friends.
