The 45th Annual Northwest Iowa Middle School/Junior High Honor Band Festival will take place tonight in Storm Lake.

Students from the Spencer Middle School Band who are participating in the festival are: Catherine Glackin, Emma Schwarck, Maddie Sims, Katie Simpson and Parker Polaschek.

The Northwest Iowa Bandmasters Association sponsors the festival for outstanding middle school band students from the Northwest Iowa region.

Approximately 300 seventh and eighth grade musicians from 40 Northwest Iowa schools auditioned on Oct. 13, for selection to one of two equal bands. These two honor bands will rehearse during the day and present a concert tonight at 6 p.m. in the Storm Lake High School gymnasium. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Guest conductors for the honor band festival will be Dr. Gary Reeves, of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Mr. David Rutt, of Forest City, Iowa. Dr. Reeves is Professor of Horn at the University of South Dakota, and Mr. Rutt is director of bands at Forest City High School.
