A faith-filled call to action

Saturday, October 27, 2012

Casting Crowns was one of the largest attended shows during the 2012 Clay County Fair.

It was a night of praise and worship in the grandstand with uplifting music and words of encouragement. Words that we can really cling to in times such as these when God is chased further and further from the public consciousness in the name of political correctness.

Among the many soul-reaching songs Casting Crowns performed that evening, none spoke as loudly to me as the group's song "Courageous."

The theme song from the popular Christian film of the same name, it explores a group of law enforcement officers and a self-employed handyman who discover their roles as men of God in a world that challenges their convictions at every turn. They face loss and tragedy, struggles in their family and in the work place, relying on the strength of God to stand tall in the face of it all.

The film, and more importantly the song, are not simply forms of entertainment, but a call to arms in a time where our country's morality is not only being tested, but is being beaten down because there aren't enough good men willing to stand tall.

So allow me to share the lyrics from this call to awakening and I encourage all men -- and of course any women who feel so moved -- to accept this challenge to stand in the gap, joining other brothers in arms to live a life and raise a family focused on God's direction rather than man's plan.

Read and contemplate:

We were made to be courageous

We were made to lead the way

We could be the generation

That finally breaks the chains

We were made to be courageous

We were made to be courageous

We were warriors on the front lines

Standing, unafraid

But now we're watchers on the sidelines

While our families slip away

Where are you, men of courage?

You were made for so much more

Let the pounding of our hearts cry

We will serve the Lord

We were made to be courageous

And we're taking back the fight

We were made to be courageous

And it starts with us tonight

The only way we'll ever stand

Is on our knees with lifted hands

Make us courageous

Lord, make us courageous

This is our resolution

Our answer to the call

We will love our wives and children

We refuse to let them fall

We will reignite the passion

That we buried deep inside

May the watchers become warriors

Let the men of God arise

We were made to be courageous

And we're taking back the fight

We were made to be courageous

And it starts with us tonight

The only way we'll ever stand

Is on our knees with lifted hands

Make us courageous

Lord, make us courageous

Seek justice

Love mercy

Walk humbly with your God

In the war of the mind

I will make my stand

In the battle of the heart

And the battle of the hand

In the war of the mind

I will make my stand

In the battle of the heart

And the battle of the hand

We were made to be courageous

And we're taking back the fight

We were made to be courageous

And it starts with us tonight

The only way we'll ever stand

Is on our knees with lifted hands

Make us courageous

Lord, make us courageous

We were made to be courageous

Lord, make us courageous

Have a blessed weekend and I appreciate your readership and look forward to hearing from you.
