The Spencer girls cross country team dominated the Lakes Conference meet in Storm Lake Tuesday night, placing five girls in the top-12 and winning the team title over Le Mars by 22 points (41-63). The girls' pack was a strong as it's been all year as they turned in their lowest team score of the season.

The conference win for the girls represents the first team cross country title since 1995.

Cierra Guerrero paced the Tigers, as she's done in every meet this year, with a third-place finish in 15:58 behind Le Mars' Kenzie Theisen (15:06) and Spirit Lake's Dondi Schmidt (15:42).

Kendra Bauermeister (7th), Kari Kramer (9th) and Sara Bauermeister (10th) all turned in season-best finishes in the top-10 to earn all-conference honors. Senior Daly Tighe (12th) also earned All-Lakes recognition as the top 14 runners were named to the team.

"Our pack was just phenomenal. They were just like a wall of purple and pretty much stayed side-by-side for the whole race," girls coach Kurt Bauermeister said. "The girls really deserve it. I can't say enough about them, they did a super job. And the fans and parents support has been great all year."

Claire Eagan and Emily Coldren finished in 26th and 27th, respectively, to round out the Spencer varsity runners.

Spencer will now prepare for the State Qualifying Meet at Spencer Municipal Golf Course next Thursday, Oct. 18, where the top 10 individuals qualify for state in Fort Dodge and the top three teams advance. The top-2 favorites for the team title are Bishop Heelan and MOC-Floyd Valley. Spencer will hope to secure the third spot and earn a trip on Saturday, Oct. 27.

BOYS 2ND, BAUERMEISTER 2ND

The Spencer boys were just off Spirit Lake's pace as they finished second to the Indians Tuesday evening (40-52). Junior Ryan Bauermeister took second overall behind Spirit Lake's Will Norris.

Two other Tiger runners earned all-conference honors: Matt Behrens finished in fifth place and Andrew Eisenbacher took 12th for his best finish of the year. Levi Gilmore placed 16th , just two places out of all-conference honors.

"We ran really well tonight as a team and they executed our plan for this meet very well," boys coach Jared Davis said. "We wanted to be in position to win the meet and our guys did that. You have to give credit to Spirit Lake, they ran very well."

Jake Krei turned in his best effort of the season with a 22nd-place finish, while Tanner Viedenkamp and Nick Gross rounded out the varsity runners.

The boys will also be running the State Qualifying Meet at Spencer Municipal on Thursday, Oct. 18.
