The Iowa Lakes women's soccer team improved to 10-4 on the season with a 5-0 shutout at Oakton Community College on Friday evening, Oct. 5. Freshman forward Lizzy Rasmussen scored three goals, giving her a team-high 12 for the year, as the Laker women out-shot Oakton 16-3 in the win.

"We really didn't play very well in the first half even though we had the ball most of the time," Iowa Lakes coach Ammon Bennett said. "In the second half, going into the wind, we kept the ball down and managed to tack on three more goals with some nice ball control and movement."

Brittany Valentine and Britney Hansen each scored a goal, while Natasha Lichfield and Kelsey Johnson shared time in goal for the shutout. The Laker women will take on a top-10 team in Iowa Central today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at the Spencer Soccer Complex. Iowa Central beat the ILCC women 6-2 on Sept. 15 in Fort Dodge.

MEN LOSE 3-0 TO OAKTON

The Iowa Lakes men were on the receiving end of a shutout in Rosemount as Oakton defeated the Lakers, 3-0. They fall to 6-9 on the year.

The game was tied 0-0 until the 60th minute when nationally-ranked Oakton went ahead. They would add two more late to seal the win.

"We played solid up until the moment when we gave up a soft goal on poor communication on defense," Bennett said. "After that, we kind of gave up and Oakton was able to capitalize on our sloppiness."

The men's team will host Iowa Central at 4 p.m. today (Tuesday).
