Football: Harris-Lake Park blows out CC-E, 86-6

Saturday, October 6, 2012

Coming into Friday's game against Clay Central-Everly, Harris-Lake Park had scored over 60 points in each of its last three games. Friday night in Lake Park, the Wolves didn't just get to 60, they blew right past 80 in an 86-6 district rout of visiting CC-E.

H-LP (5-2, 4-1) dominated every phase of the game and led 53-0 at halftime. They added 27 more points in the third quarter.

The Wolves scored on two interception returns for touchdowns, a punt return and returned a CC-E onside attempt back for a score. H-LP completed 7-of-8 passes for over 100 yards and gained 145 yards rushing in the first half.

Chazz Brown finally got the Mavericks on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run.

"We're beat, battered and bruised. The kids are giving it their all - we just can't match up physically with a team like this," CC-E coach Austin Davis said.

Clay Central-Everly falls to 0-7 and 0-5 in the district and will host M-M-C next Friday. M-M-C beat Harris-Lake Park, 72-64, two weeks ago.

Why are these games being allowed to go on when they are this lopsided? What happened to the slaughter rule? two in the area this weekend with scores like this.

86-6? In a high school game?..hard to fathom that that the programs can be that far apart. CC-E was a playoff team not long ago. Ouch.

There is no such thing as a "slaughter rule" anymore. It is now a continuous clock after one team leads the other by 35 points or more. And yes it is sad because the last CCE team to win a football game was the class of 2011.

Eight man football games always tend to be high scoring due to the fact the field is shorter, more passing plays, more trick plays, and is usually more of a faster pace game than eleven man game. With Clay Central - Everly doing eight man football in it's first year, expect a few growing pains. Let the coaches and the players get to know the game, the Mavericks will be on top again.

I would just like to say that I am very proud of the boys at CCE. Because of our small numbers in the high school we almost did not have a team. If it wasn't for them stepping up to the challenge, CCE football would no longer exist.

Unfortunately we played eleven man longer then we should have and have had recent controversey and infighting in our athletic department. It takes time to get over these issues. We have a great bunch of boys playing hard despite the tough season. We are proud of them!

Bison, how was it that CCE played eleven man too long? Did they not go to the playoffs in 2010 and 2011? They were very successful in those two seasons of eleven man as I recall.

You need to check your stats SICL

So proud of these students. They've been couragous and a great example for the coming years. They've improved a lot in a few short months.

How is it I need to check my stats Bison? CCE lost 2nd round of playoffs to Lemars Gehlen 21 to 18. Which CCE lost to state champs Southern Cal 21 to 20 in the regular season in 2010. In 2011 CCE lost to Northwood Kensett 12 to 10. Who they beat in regular season 20 to 8. Thats a pretty good record if you ask me. Get back to me Bison.

And Kmom yes you may feel that way but when CCE doesn't win a game in 2 years it has to be disappoint to the program compared to what it was. To make a succesful program you have to have to prepare in the offeseason. Did they do this? Was there lifting and conditioning in the offseason to get better and if so did they plan together as a team to make a constant effort to be better than the year before?

I think where we misunderstand is you perhaps are talking class of 2011 and I am talking season of 2011.Our last year of 11 man was the 2011 season and not good. But we have to agree to play 11 man for 2 seasons at a time and the program would have benefitted from going to 8 man in 2010 in my opinion.

True the season of 2011 was rough but the season of 2010 was succesful. How do you determine then? During that time period the better decision was to stay 11 man since after the 2009 season CCE had almost advanced to state? Along with that they had many returning starters...
