"This is actually year five or our well-being program," Steve Pick, SMU general manager, said. "We've offered voluntary wellness screenings to our employees and spouses ... and we're stepping things up this year."
Pick said the focus areas of the Blue Zones Worksite are closely aligned with SMU's ongoing efforts for its staff.
"It makes better employees and citizens," Pick said.
Blue Zones Community Program Manager Alison Simpson said, "It's another exciting opportunity to share with Spencer. It truly enhances the work environment here."
Sheriffa Jones, the Spencer Blue Zones Organization Lead, credited SMU with having 100 percent of its leaders participate in the Blue Zones Leadership Module.
"They are doing a lot for the well-being of their employees the past five years," Jones said.
SMU joins Spencer Hospital, Farmers Bank and Savings Trust, Fareway, Hy-Vee and the Spencer Y as Blue Zones Certified Worksites.
Blue Zones Engagement Lead Erin Pingel noted that SMU is a perfect example of a Spencer business "working toward wellness."
