Funeral services for Mr. Harold Christensen, 83, of Spencer, formerly of Royal, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. Rev. Deb Mechler will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 6-8 p.m., at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Military flag presentation will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 1 of Spencer.

Mr. Christensen passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Spencer Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abben Cancer Center.

Harold Duane Christensen, the son of Amos and Hildur Johnson Christensen Sr., was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Spencer. His childhood years were spent on the family farm east of Royal. He received his early education at Lincoln Township Country School and later graduated from the Royal High School. Following his schooling, Harold entered the United States Air Force on Sept. 12, 1950, and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1952.

Harold married Barbara Hildreth on June 7, 1953, in Terril. Following their marriage they moved to a farm near Royal, where Harold was a lifetime farmer and also raised cattle. Harold was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, where he served on various church offices and enjoyed volunteering. He was also a Royal School Board Member and served as President, 4-H Leader, and served on the Royal Elevator Board.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Lois Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Spencer; his two sons and their wives: Ron and Maureen Christensen and Kent and Nicole Christensen -- all of Spencer; one daughter, Rochelle Christensen of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Amos and Virginia Christensen Jr. of Spencer; other relatives and friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
