Clay Central-Everly topped Sioux Central in a five-set non-conference volleyball match Tuesday night in Everly. CC-E won the first set, 25-20, before Sioux Central bounced back to claim the next two (25-17, 25-18). The Mavs closed out the match, winning the final two games 25-14 and 15-7. CC-E is now 14-9 on the season.
Stevie Scott led the way for the Mavs with 26 kills in the match. Heather Busch added 16 kills and Blair Montgomery 10. Emily Jobst notched 27 assists and had 27 digs. Talor Stein added 21 assists and 14 digs.
"My setters did a great job, both Emily (Jobst) and Talor (Stein)," CC-E coach Abbee Gappa said. "There was some inconsistent play from both sides but the girls did a nice job to get the win."
Sioux Central coach Sue Mattson noted the uneven play from her squad, who fell to 13-13 on the year.
"It's been an up-and-down season, and that's exactly how we played tonight," Mattson said. "At times, we looked really good, and at other times, I don't know where my team went."
Both Erin Rachuy and Hallie Ehlers notched nine kills each, and both had 16 digs. Ehlers, a senior, led with three aces as well. Mikayla Landsness added seven kills and Jessica Johnson had 16 digs. Bailey McGuire had 15 assists and 13 digs.
CC-E will face GTRA in Ruthven Tuesday, Oct. 2, for a Cornbelt Conference match. Sioux Central will travel to Paullina and face South O'Brien on Oct. 2 in a Twins Lakes match.
