Clay Central-Everly got second at the Alta-Aurelia tournament on Saturday as the Mavericks won three straight after losing to Cherokee in the day's first match. CC-E lost to Cherokee, 2-0, to open the tournament but turned it around with 2-0 wins over Alta-Aurelia, GTRA and Remsen St. Marys. Stats from the tournament were unavailable at press time.

The Mavericks are now 12-10 on the season and host Sioux Central tonight (Tuesday) in Everly. CC-E beat the Rebels, 2-0, at the Laurens-Marathon tournament on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Sioux Central had the weekend off but played two matches at East Sac County in Lake View on Thursday, Sept. 20. The Rebels defeated Prairie Valley, 2-1, and were led by Nicole Hamilton (9 kills), Hallie Ehlers (8 kills, 7 digs) and Erin Rachuy (7 kills, 7 digs).

The Rebels lost to East Sac, 2-0, in a match that featured a back-and-forth first game (25-21) and then a lopsided close-out game (25-12). Rachuy led with four kills.

"The first game was back and forth the whole game, but then things fell apart in the second game," Sioux Central coach Sue Mattson said. "My girls play really well at times, but I wish they'd play that way all the time. Our youth sometimes shows."
