Gretchen Isabel Seger Evans
Gretchen Isabel Seger Evans was born June 1, 1926, on a farm near Linn Grove, Iowa. She passed away on Sept. 13, 2012, at the age of 86.

Gretchen graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, with a degree in music. Her appreciation of music was one of her greatest joys throughout her life.

She married her husband, Don Karter Evans, in 1947, and they made their home in Spencer. Gretchen was a homemaker and active in her church as a choir director. She loved playing the piano and taught many students to play. She sang in the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Choir in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., many winter seasons.

Gretchen and Don owned and operated the The Inn Resort on Lake Okoboji for 33 years. She moved to Tulsa after the passing of her beloved husband in 1999 to be near family, and soon became very involved in the Asbury Methodist Church and the Music Ministry. Gretchen was a volunteer in the music office for many years. She enjoyed studying God's Word with others. Gretchen was a lifelong active member of the Sisterhood of PEO.

Gretchen enjoyed Tulsa's fine arts and attended numerous concerts often with her college sheet music in hand.

She is survived in death by her two children: Jay Evans, of Okoboji, and Dick Evans, of Tulsa, Okla., and his wife, Jean Evans. Gretchen had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who adored her: Tracy Evans Walsh, Cassie Evans Stratton, Tyler Evans, Landon Evans, Blake Evans and Brittany Evans, Scarlett Stratton and Calyn Evans.

We will miss her generosity and love of helping others.

A graveside service will be held on Sept. 21, 2012, at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Mason Chapel, Asbury United Methodist Church.

A reception will follow the service.

Donations can made to the Asbury Music Ministry.

Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C. Schaudt of Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service & Cremation Care.
