The Spencer cross country teams traveled to Carroll Kuemper for its first Saturday meet of the year and saw multiple 3A and 4A schools for the first time. The Spencer girls took second place with its best finished of the year (58). Urbandale breezed to the girls win with just 33 points.

Cierra Guerrero took second (16:17) and Daly Tighe 10th in the 10-team field to pace the Tigers again. Kendra Bauermeister's 11th in 17:10 was a season-best, with Kari Kramer (17th) and Sara Bauermeister (18th) rounding out the lowest score of the year for the Lady Tigers. The previous best was 61 at Estherville on Sept. 4 where all five varsity runners also placed in the top-18.

Ryan Bauermeister won his second race of the week with a time of 17:11 as the Tiger boys took fourth behind Urbandale, Thomas Jefferson and Webster City. Matt Behrens tallied another top-10 finish in 18:05, his fifth of the year.

"Ryan is running very well right now. He controls his race and pushes when he needs to, "boys coach Jared Davis said. "Matt Behrens continues to finish strong in the top-10. He's had a big impact this year."

Bauermeister has only lost to Spirit Lake's Will Norris this season. Norris was 2A's runner up last year and is regarded as one of the top runners in all classes.

Cross country is now at past its midpoint as Spencer will run three more regular season meets before competing at the Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Storm Lake Municipal Golf Course. The district meet will follow on Thursdy, Oct. 18.
