The Tiger cross country teams got to see plenty of competition at the 13-team field running the Storm Lake Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The girls took second to MOC-Floyd Valley, three points back, and the boys finished sixth in a field that featured many conference and district opponents.

Junior Ryan Bauermeister won his first race of the season with a time of 16:53 and Matt Behrens delivered another top-10 performance with a ninth-place finish.

"Ryan ran a smart race. He didn't go out too hard and took control from there," boys coach Jared Davis said. "He looked very comfortable throughout the race and won the race against a quality and large field. With this being one of the more competitive and large field meets so far this year, it really gave our guys a taste of what conference and district will be like."

Fort Dodge won the boys meet with 85, followed by Algona with 105. Spirit Lake's Will Norris didn't compete in the meet, while Spencer was without Levi Gilmore.

The girls got another solid team performance and a second-place finish from Cierra Guerrero to take second. Daly Tighe finished eighth for her fourth-consecutive top-10 performance.

Le Mars' Kenzie Theisen won the race with Guerrero finishing second in 15:43.96. MOC-Floyd Valley, running without top runner Bethany Dykstra, edged Spencer 70-73 on a warm and windy night in Storm Lake.

Kendra Bauermeister and Kari Kramer finished 16th and 17th, respectively, for the Tigers.

"I liked the way we competed," girls coach Kurt Bauermeister said. "Cierra's been running well all year, and Daly ran really well (Tuesday)."

Both cross country teams will travel to Carroll for the Kuemper Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.

"Saturday will be a good marker of where we're at," Bauermeister said.
