CC-E FFA team competes in meat judging contest

Members of the Clay Central-Everly FFA Chapter participated in the Iowa FFA Meat Judging Career Development Event on Saturday, Aug.25, in Ames on the campus of Iowa State University.

The CC-E Meat Judging team, consisting of Rebecca White, Gabby Huss, Katey Rinehart and Hannah Heissel, placed 13th overall. Individually, Rebecca White was the highest finisher for the chapter, placing 33rd overall.

FFA Teams from 19 chapters, including 71 individuals, participated in this year's Career Development Event designed to provide the students an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Meats Evaluation. Activities included: Placing carcass classes of beef, pork, and lamb; placing classes of wholesale and retail meat cuts; quality and yield grading beef carcasses; identifying retail meat cuts, and a problem solving activity.

The Meats Evaluation and Technology Career Development Event was coordinated and conducted by Sherry Olsen and the ISU Meats Judging Team along with the faculty in the Meat Science Department of the Animal Science Department at Iowa State Univeristy.
