Volleyball: Tigers win 3 at HLP

The Spencer volleyball team won its second invitational of the season, sweeping the Harris-Lake Park triangular with wins over Sioux Central, North Union and the host school, HLP. The Tigers improved to 7-2 on the season as they prepare for the Spencer tournament this Saturday at Spencer Fieldhouse, beginning at 9 a.m.

Spencer defeated Sioux Central, 3-1, with Taylor Anderson and Kirstin Martindale leading the way offensively. Anderson tallied 17 kills in the match to go with 12 digs, six total blocks and two aces. Martindale also had 17 kills and five aces. Game scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19.

The Tigers picked up 17 aces, including four from Taylor Glover, who was 22-for-22 on serves. Sioux Central's Hallie Ehlers recorded nine kills and Nicole Hamilton added eight.

Spencer beat North Union, 2-0, and rallied down nine points in the second game to clinch the match. Trailing 23-14, the Tigers stormed back to win the game, 26-24. Maddie Boyd had 13 assists and two aces in the win. Martindale had eight kills. Anderson and Glover had seven each. The Tigers beat Harris-Lake Park, 2-0.

Sioux Central fell to North Union, 2-1, and beat Harris-Lake Park, 2-1. The Rebels were led by Ehlers and Gloria Jensen in both matches. Ehlers collected 11 kills in the two matches, with Jensen getting 10. Bailey McGuire led in assists with a total of 39 in the three matches.
