Storm washes extreme heat out of northwest Iowa
As the final day of temperatures in the 90s exited the region, high-powered thunderstorms raged through northwest Iowa in the late evening hours, producing high winds and a lightning and thunder show which lit up the sky and rattled windows. Nearly three-quarters of an inch of rain landed in Spencer. A large branch, at the corner of West Fourth Street and 11th Avenue West (above), was among the local foliage tragedies during the evening's events.(Photo by Randy M. Cauthron) [Order this photo]
