The girls swimming season is underway and Spencer's Taylor Sieperda has picked up where she left off last year.

The sophomore from Spirit Lake won three events in the season opener at Sioux City Metro on Tuesday, Aug. 28, the 50 free, 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke.

Sieperda, who qualified for three events at the state meet as a freshman, also was second in the 100-yard individual medley behind Metro's Aliza Wink, who also won the 50 breaststroke. Spencer's Cassidy Fox was third in the 50 breaststroke and seventh in 50 butterfly.

Also for Spencer/Spirit Lake, Emma Dau took eighth place in the 50 free, Abby Goodenow was ninth in the 50 breaststroke, and Krista Determan was ninth in the 50 butterfly.
