Volleyball: Tigers go 1-2 at MOC tourney

The Spencer volleyball team lost its first match of the season, but also saw one of the best teams in the state.

Playing at the MOC-Floyd Valley tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 28, Spencer lost to the preseason No. 1-ranked team in 3A, MOC-FV, 2-0 (21-15, 21-8). The Tigers also fell to Sergeant Bluff-Luton, 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) and beat Lakes Conference opponent, Cherokee, 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) to finish in fifth place.

Taylor Anderson and Kirstin Martindale led the Tigers with 12 kills for the tournament. Anderson also recorded 4.5 total blocks, 12 digs and two aces. Martindale had three blocks and 13 digs.

Taylor Glover paced the Spencer defense with 24 digs and added eight kills and two aces. Maddie Boyd had 15 assists and three aces, while Kari Miller also added 15 assists in the three matches.

Spencer is now 4-2 on the season and will play at the Harris-Lake Park Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
