Bert worked for John Deere in Primghar before entering into the military. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on Dec. 29, 1954. While in the military he was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. He was honorably discharged from the military on Oct. 28, 1958. He settled in Spencer in the late 1980's. He stayed with Rohlin's until his retirement in 2002. Even after his retirement he still helped them out every now and then.

Bert enjoyed going gambling, watching NASCAR and other sports. He always had nice trucks and always kept them clean.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Tom Glackin.

Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters: Meighan Chase and her husband, Curt of Shell Rock, Ia. and Amy Menke of Waterloo, Ia.; two granddaughters: Madeline and Abigail of Shell Rock, Ia.; one sister, Alice Glackin of Spencer, Ia; and other relatives and friends.
