Chamber issues warning about false business claims

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Spencer Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bill Campbell issued a warning Tuesday alerting Spencer-area businesses to a company claiming false association with the chamber and Clay County Fair.

"We are needing to alert you that a company, Elite Publishing, is making calls to chamber members asking them to place or upgrade a

printed ad which they say is in the Chamber purple membership book," Campbell stated in the informational release.

He continued, "The chamber is in no way associated with this company and has no agreements with them in regards to any type of publication."

Campbell added that the current membership directory is published by the Spencer Daily Reporter.

"We have no agreements with any other company for a publication of any type," Campbell stressed.

Similar solicitations have been reported, representing an official Clay County Fair publication, not associated with the paper.

"Unfortunately, we have had to repeatedly send out this email warning about this company and want you to be aware and very cautious," Campbell stressed,

Any business contacted by a company making statements to the effect that it's putting out some type of chamber publication as part of an agreement or with approval from the Spencer Chamber should notify chamber representatives immediately.
