Vesta Rouse

Funeral services for Mrs. Vesta Rouse, 90, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Rev. Travis Stevick will officiate the service

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2-4 p.m., at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mrs. Rouse passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

The family requests memorials be given to St. Luke Lutheran Home or Grace United Methodist Church.

Vesta Doris ( Remillard) Meleky Rouse, the daughter of Jesse and Marie (Meyer) Remillard, was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Sioux Rapids, Ia. Vesta received her education in the Sioux Rapids school system, graduating in 1939.

Following high school, Vesta, along with her sister Vera, took a train to the state of Washington where they worked in a defense factory to support the war effort.

Vesta was married to Joseph Meleky of Farrell, Penn., on July 22, 1943. Joe, a World War II glider pilot, was killed in action on D-Day, June 6, 1944. On Jan. 26, 1947, Vesta was united in marriage to Alvin Chester Rouse in Spencer. On Valentine's Day 1959 they were thrilled to welcome two-year old Linda into their family.

Vesta worked many years at Jefferson Elementary School before retiring in 1992 at the age of 70. Vesta enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a great cook and hosted many family dinners at her home on Sundays and holidays. For many years, Vesta and Alvin also enjoyed their weekly card club with several couples.

Vesta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, American Legion Glen Pederson Post No. 1, VFW Post and Auxillary No. 3159 and Eastern Star Evening Shade Chapter No. 116.

Vesta is survived by her daughter, Linda Thelen and son-in-law, Ed Thelen of Spirit Lake, Ia.; grandchildren: Nathan Thelen of Iowa City and Alena Thelen of Spirit Lake; sisters: Wilma Hansen of Sioux Rapids and Phyllis Braesch of Marathon; special friend, Lawrence Smith of Spencer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Eldon and Daisy Rouse, Kathryn Rouse, Ellen and Clelland Darr, Maynard and Ruth Rouse and Cleo Bohn; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Marie; her husbands: Joe and Alvin; sisters: Vera and Velma; brothers: Wayne, Calvin and Richard; sister-in-laws: Ellie Remillard, Velma Remillard and Donna Remillard. Also, preceeding her were brother-in-laws: Floyd Nelson, Bob Hansen and Kenny Braesch.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
