Frederick R. Nelson, 76, passed away at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., April 12, 2012.

Born March 8, 1936 in Spencer, Ia. to Gerald L. Nelson and Mildred E.(Loder) Nelson, the oldest of six children. Following his graduation from Spencer High School in 1954, Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After six years he received his honorable discharge. Fred married Beverly C. Pederson in 1964.

Fred attended the University of Colorado and received his Bachelor of Science degree in business in 1973. Fred and Beverly then settled in Colorado Springs, Colo. where Fred worked as an accountant for the State of Colorado and Beverly taught in the Colorado Springs school system. They both enjoyed hiking and sightseeing in the mountains and they also enjoyed vacationing to many of our National Parks. Following their retirements, Fred and Beverly then had the time to enjoy many trips overseas, where Beverly's ability to converse in five languages proved extremely helpful.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly C.(Pederson) Nelson; and his parents, Gerald L. Nelson and Mildred E.(Loder) Nelson.

Fred is survived by two brothers: Roger (Linda) Nelson and Jerry (Norene) Nelson; three sisters: Janice (Jack) Moore, Donna (Ronald) Wyatt and Patty (Gerry) Tuttle; two aunts: Jean Ahrenstorff and Dorothy Pederson; two brothers-in-law: Clark Pederson and Calvin Pederson; numerous cousins, many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

A service and internment for Fred and Beverly's ashes is planned at a later date.

Memorials can be directed to the ALS Association in Beverly's name.
