New teachers at Spencer schools
Students may be counting down their last week of summer, but teachers are already back in the classroom. Spencer schools started their pre-year meetings today, and welcomed 12 new teachers into the district.
Rochelle Achenbach is a high school language arts teacher who studied at the University of Northern Iowa. She student taught this past year at Estherville and Spencer schools.
Matt Borchers is an elementary guidance counselor, who will be shared by Spencer and Ruthven-Ayrshire schools. He received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and his master's from the University of Colorado before working as a K-8 counselor in Colorado Springs and a counselor and dean of students in Yankton, S.D.
David Brown is the new activities director. He taught physical education and coached in Decorah, Iowa and in Fremont, Neb. He received his bachelor's degree from Augustana College and his administration and sports management degree from Wayne State University.
John Doely is a high school science teacher, a teacher's aide, and the assistant boys basketball coach. Doely graduated from UNI and did his student teaching at Spirit Lake.
Angela Ewalt is a middle school special education teacher. She graduated from UNI and worked most recently as a special education teacher at Sioux Central and Mason City schools.
Clint Geater is a middle school industrial technology instructor. He graduated from UNI and worked most recently at Benton Schools.
Karen Halvorson is a kindergarten teacher. She received her bachelor's degree from Augustana College and her master's degree from the University of Sioux Falls. Halvorson has taught kindergarten in Sioux Falls and was a lead teacher for Head Start in Fargo, N.D.
Tessa Hemann is a middle school language arts teacher who has worked most recently at Sioux Central Schools in Iowa and at Mount Horeb and Darlington Schools in Wisconsin. She graduated from Wartburg College.
Sarah Larsen is a middle school language arts and reading teacher. Larsen graduated from Drake University and taught previously at Walnut Community Schools and South Hardin Schools.
Ashley Meyer is a high school language arts teacher. She graduated from UNI and has worked the past two years at Guilford High School.
Amie Mowry is the middle school art teacher. She graduated from Millersville University in Millersville, Pa.
Brook Schueller is a kindergarten teacher who worked previously as a first grade teacher in the Des Moines school district. Schueller received her bachelor's from Iowa State and her master's from Viterbo University.
