Changes in the works

Thursday, August 9, 2012

The new lines in the middle school parking lot have been painted on an angle, to encourage a single lane of traffic from the south entrance traveling north. In addition, new arrows have been painted on the entrance and exit to the parking lot, to assist the flow of traffic.

Middle school pick-up, drop-off made safer

Parents dropping children off at the middle school will see changes in the parking lot this year. Instead of parking spaces perpendicular to the road, the lines have been repainted, slanted to allow for one direct flow of traffic.

Cars will now enter the new parking lot from the south, and exit to the north. Terry Hemann, superintendent, said that this new parking lot reflects the one at Lincoln Elementary.

"We feel it will make a safer parking lot," Hemann said in a school board meeting last month.

The changes came with the addition of the walking school bus, traveling from Fairview elementary to the middle school.

In addition to the slanted parking spaces, the previous arrows have been painted over, and a single arrow has been painted on each end, further directing the traffic.
