West Lake drowning victim identified
The name of a drowning victim on West Lake Tuesday was released Wednesday. Jennifer Galagher, 46, of Denver, Colo. had been swimming off the shore Monday evening. Her family reported her missing on Tuesday morning and later found her underneath a dock.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Christ Yungbluth said his department's dive team did not have to conduct a search. Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun said the victim was going for a swim at the time of the drowning.
She was located in the area near Wheeler's Beach just off of 1st Street in the city of West Okoboji.
Emergency crews recieved a 911 distress call at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Resuce teams were on hand for nearly an hour but once they arrived at the scene, Galagher was pronounced dead.
Milford Fire and Rescue personnel were assisted by Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue, the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Dive Team, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance crew as well as officers from the sheriff's office.
