William Nelson Peterson, 83, of Kenmare, passed away Friday evening Aug. 3, 2012, in Kenmare.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare with the Rev. John Syvertson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Thompson Larson Funeral Home in Kenmare.

Burial will occur at a later date in Spencer, Iowa.

Bill was born on Feb. 14, 1929, to William P. and Agnes A. (Nelson) Peterson on his grandfather's farm in rural Northwood, N.D. He grew up on a farm, first living in rural Northwood until 1946 when the family relocated to Kenmare and continued farming in the Kenmare area until his retirement in 1992.

Bill married Charlotte Walstrom on Jan. 26, 1963, in Royal, Iowa.

Anyone who knew Bill knew of his love of airplanes and flying. Many adventures were had by him and any locals brave enough to go on his flying exploits. Over the years Bill was an active bowler and member of the Nazareth Church Council, along with various other organizations in the area. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially telling his granddaughters stories and getting them to laugh. He also enjoyed boating and was very proud of his Norwegian Heritage. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte (Walstrom) Peterson, Kenmare, and their two sons: Mark (Deborah) Peterson of Sioux Falls, S.D. and David of Spencer; his three granddaughters: Alexandra, Samantha and Mackenzie, of which he was very proud; his sister, Karen (Carl) Scott of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sisters-in-law: Beverly Walstrom of Sioux City, Ia., Majorie Frad of Spencer, Ia., and Darlene (Gover) Petitt of Sheldon, Ia.; along several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Agnes A. Peterson.
