SCT children perform 'Winnie the Pooh'

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Winnie the Pooh enlists the help of friends Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit and Owl to help him find Christopher Robin, who he believes has some honey.
Spencer Community Theatre will present "Winnie the Pooh" this weekend as a part of its children's theatre program.

The 50-member cast includes children ages 6-14, with Rhyan Busch as Winnie the Pooh, Aleena Lawson as Tigger, Makenna Pierce as Piglet, Ashley Schuster as Rabbit, Ruby O'Hagan as Owl, Kylee Versluiss as Kanga, Cayle Carter as Roo, and Gabbi Carpenter as Eeyore.

Winnie the Pooh is sleeping happily when he is awaken by his tummy (played by Nola Gafkjen), who wants some honey. Unfortunately, his honey pot is empty, so he embarks on a journey to borrow some from his friends.

When he goes to find Christopher Robin, Pooh finds a letter instead. The letter warns of a monster called the "backson," which has taken Christopher Robin as its hostage. Pooh and his friends find this quite scary. Piglet suggests luring this backson into a trap, using a picnic as bait. With this trap, hopefully, they can retrieve their beloved friend.

Together, with the help of the other animals of the forest and narrated by the protective rainbow that watches over the Hundred Acre Wood, the group learns about teamwork and friendship.

"Winnie the Pooh" is based on the characters from A.A. Milne's story and the 2011 Disney animated film.

From a note that Christopher Robin left the group, Owl fears a scary monster known as a "backson" is coming into the forest. Piglet suggests trapping the backson, luring it in with a picnic.
SCT's production is incredibly cute, with individually stellar performances by each cast member. The show is 45 minutes long, and is directed by Meghan Vosberg. Music direction by Jonathan Pothuma.
