Minor injuries sustained in Saturday accident

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Two individuals sustained minor injuries in a Saturday morning accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and Clay County Road M-50.

Larry Ohden, 72, of Laurens, was traveling north in a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire, on M-50 and stopped at the intersection with Highway 18. Ohden allegedly failed to see oncoming traffic and continued through the intersection, into the path of a 1992 Chevy pickup, driven by Jose Torres, 26, of St. James, Minn., traveling west on Highway 18.

Torres was unable to avoid striking the passenger side of Ohden's vehicle.

Ohden and Jose Lopez, a passenger in the pickup, were treated for minor injuries.

The 2004 Pontiac sustained $6,000 in damage and was declared totaled. The Chevy pickup, owned by Maria Vera, of St. James, received $3,500 in damage and was also declared a total loss.

Ohden was cited for failure to yield, and Torres was cited for failure to prove liability insurance.
