At Thursday night's meeting, the library board elected to issue temporary cards for children who would like to check out books after a group tour.
"Sometimes school classrooms come in and have a tour and then (some of the children) are disappointed when they are unable to check out a book or two because they have no library card," said Library Board President Karen Carey.
The temporary card will be valid for 30 days and will allow children to take books home with them, "while they're still so excited about it."
The library hopes that issuing these cards will also serve as an incentive for parents to bring their children in for a permanent library card.
In addition, the library hopes that by issuing these cards to the children, parents and families will continue to come to the library "that maybe haven't been there for awhile."
"We hope to use this opportunity to help the community see all we have to offer besides books," Carey said.
