Funeral services for Clifford Pettit, 85, of Spencer, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Dale Hodges will officiate the service.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Pettit passed away Wednesday, July 4, at Rainy River Resort in Baudette, Minn.

Interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.

Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 of Spencer.

Clifford Lee Pettit, the son of Thomas W. and Maude (Caskey) Pettit, was born on Sept. 13, 1926, in Everly, Ia. He was raised and received his early education in Everly. Following graduation, he entered into the military on Jan. 4, 1945, serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 28, 1946.

On Dec. 1, 1952, Clifford married Marilyn Welch in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following their marriage, they lived in Everly, where he worked for the Farmer's Coop for many years. He then managed the elevator in Hartley. Clifford was also a self-employed carpenter for many years. He actually built the house in Everly they lived in. The couple eventually settled in Spencer where he continued his carpentry work. Clifford liked to fish and take trips up to northern Minnesota. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house and fixing things.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; three sisters; and his daughter-in-law, Vicky Pettit.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn of Spencer, Ia.; two daughters: Judy Arnold of LeMars, Ia. and Diane Rausch and her husband, Bill of Hartley, Ia.; one son, Stanley Pettit of Spencer, Ia.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Harry Pettit of and Don Pettit of Orlando Fla.; one sister, Clara Weiben of Spencer, Ia.; other relatives and friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
